I just got elected president of our newly founded travel club and I have NO idea what I'm doing. We have 23 members signed up, a meeting with student government next week to pitch for funding, and a vague plan to go to Portugal in March. Any advice from people who've run campus travel clubs before? Especially on the liability/insurance side — that bit scares me.

Ran our university travel club for 2 years. Biggest tip: get the legal waiver right from day one. We used the template from the university's general counsel and it saved us from a situation when someone twisted their ankle in Prague.

The framing as 'cultural enrichment' rather than 'fun trip' is key for SGA funding. We got $8k for a Costa Rica trip specifically because we partnered with the Environmental Studies department and made it a service-learning component.

G Adventures group discount is legit. Got 15% off + a free leader spot for our group of 12 to Morocco. The leader spot basically paid for my flight.

Meeting with SGA went really well — they liked the cultural framing! Also found out our university has a travel insurance mandate. Going through risk management now. Thank you all for the tips!

The Google Drive playbook point is SO important. I inherited a club with zero documentation and spent a full semester recreating contacts the previous president had. Learn from our pain.

We did our first trip to Montreal from Boston — 15 students, one bus, two nights. Nothing went wrong, everyone loved it, and we used the photos and testimonials to get double the funding the next semester. Start simple!
