Just wrapped up a full academic year at Charles University in Prague. Everyone talks about how cheap it is but nobody gives real numbers. Here are my actual monthly expenses, neighborhood recommendations, and the stuff guidebooks skip. Prague is unbeatable on value for students if you know where to look.

Spent a semester in Vienna before Prague and the cost difference is staggering. Same quality of life but I was spending almost double in Vienna. Prague is genuinely the best value in Central Europe for students.

The Vietnamese food tip is so accurate. Pho Bo on Wenceslas Square for 130 CZK is better and cheaper than anything I found in the Latin Quarter in Paris. Prague is underrated for food diversity.

The winter warning is no joke. I arrived in September thinking Prague would be mild European weather. By January I was buying thermal layers I never knew existed. Budget for proper winter clothing.

We send more students to Prague every year. The value proposition is unmatched. The main feedback we get is about the bureaucratic registration process -- starting it day one of arrival is essential.

Cross Club is genuinely unlike any venue I have been to anywhere. The whole building is an art installation and the music programming is consistently good. Free entry most nights too.

Even as a weekend visitor from the UK, Prague felt absurdly cheap. A three-day trip including flights, hostel, food, and going out cost me about 200 pounds total. No other European capital comes close.

The RegioJet buses are a game changer for weekend travel. Prague to Budapest for 15 euros with free coffee and decent WiFi. I did weekend trips to five different countries during one semester.

Came back to Prague two years after my exchange and it has gotten slightly more expensive but still dramatically cheaper than Western Europe. The neighborhoods mentioned here are still the right ones.

The 650-750 euro monthly budget is realistic. I tracked my spending for six months and averaged 720 euros. That included occasional weekend trips. In Vancouver I was spending that just on rent.
