Found out last week about split ticketing after three years of uni and I'm genuinely upset at how much money I wasted. London to Manchester via split at Stoke: saved £26 on an off-peak return. Every time. Do yourselves a favour and check TrainSplit before you book anything.

The Caledonian Sleeper from London to Inverness is one of the greatest travel experiences in the UK. Waking up to the Highlands through the window is something else. And it saves a hotel night.

Groupsave is the one most students overlook. Three friends traveling together with none of you having a railcard still gets everyone 1/3 off. It's just... there. Use it.

Megabus £1.50 London to Manchester is real — I've done it four times. You have to book literally the day the schedule opens. Set an alarm for midnight.

Reminder that the 16-25 Railcard has a minimum £12 fare before 10am. Caught me out once on an early train. Make sure you're not planning an early departure on a short route.

LNER direct bookings are underrated. I saved £14 vs Trainline on the same ticket just by going through their app. Plus the Perks points add up over a full academic year.
